This report discusses the legal provisions of the countries of South Asia to prohibit the use of corporal punishment of children. It finds that almost all countries in South Asia have laws which permit or authorize physical violence against children in the name of discipline in one or more settings.
The report recommends specific legal provisions which these countries can enact to ensure explicit prohibition of all corporal punishment of children in all settings: home, school, penal systems, and alternative care.
