This report is a product of World Bank group’s gender impact evaluation database: enGENDER IMPACT. It highlights lessons learned about what works to delay age of marriage and reduce child marriage, drawing from seven impact evaluations supported by the World Bank Group. Specific program components and strategies that have been effective in delaying marriage, such as conditional cash transfer programs and access to education, are presented and explored.
The report emphasizes that preventing child marriage requires not only excellent programmatic strategies to promote education and economic opportunities, but also strengthened legal and policy frameworks and greater enforcement of existing laws.
