COVID-19 represents an unprecedented global emergency. Numbers of cases are continuing to soar, schools are closing, and health services are preoccupied with handling COVID-19 cases. While the response will need to address the needs of adolescents and youth, they should not only be seen as affected populations but also as highly effective partners. They can educate and engage among their peers and communities. For this to happen, stakeholders must be encouraged to value adolescents and youth, approach them as equals, respect their views and leverage their added value to the response.
This brief provides practical tips for humanitarian actors and young people themselves on engaging adolescents and youth as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
