Practical Pathways to Integrate Nutrition and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Around the world, more than one in five children under the age of five experience hunger and chronic malnutrition, which can irreversibly damage their physical and cognitive development.

Tackling malnutrition and ensuring that children lead a healthy life requires addressing its root causes. Unsafe drinking water as well as poor sanitation and hygiene are major contributing factors to malnutrition and thus must be taken into account when developing programs and interventions.

Drawing on lessons from Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Madagascar, this brief presents seven practical pathways towards creating a multisectoral approach to malnutrition that integrates nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene.
