Around the world, children’s education is increasingly disrupted by the impacts of climate change, conflict, displacement, and public health emergencies. These hazards threaten not only learning, but also the physical and emotional safety of students—especially those most marginalized. The Participatory School Safety & Resilience Management (PSSRM) Resource Kit 2025 responds to these urgent challenges. A comprehensive update of the 2015 Participatory School Disaster Management (PSDM) Toolkit, the PSSRM Kit is grounded in the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF 2022–2030) and offers an adaptable, rights-based approach to disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation (CCA), and educational continuity.
Designed for diverse national contexts, the kit integrates three key components: a practical handbook for school leaders and committees, planning templates to localize school safety plans, and participatory activities for learning and action. With its inclusive, child-centred methodology, the PSSRM Kit supports schools and education systems to identify local risks, reduce vulnerabilities, prepare for emergencies, and build a culture of safety and resilience—across both development and humanitarian settings.
