To coincide with World Human Rights Day, on the 10th of December, CP will be launching the Paris Principles Handbook, a comprehensive field handbook addressing the recruitment and use of children by armed forces and groups for practitioner and policy makers.
Save the Children co-leads the Paris Principles Steering Group with UNICEF on behalf of the French Government, Office of the Special Representative for Children in Armed Conflict, ICRC, the ILO, UNDP, IRC, World Vision War Child and others. The Paris Principles Handbook is a landmark document providing guidance to practitioners and policy makers on the legal rights and protections of children in relation to recruitment and use, monitoring and reporting of recruitment (and other grave violations), engagement with armed actors to prevent recruitment and secure release, as well practical, holistic and community-based actions to address vulnerability to recruitment and support safe and meaningful reintegration. There is also specific attention to supporting the needs of girls and also the recruitment and use of children by armed groups designated as terrorist organisations.
