In the report, refugee parents tell about the burdens of the refugee experiences and challenges which they face in their parenting roles during the strenuous and unpredictable journeys they are taking hoping to find safety and better lives for their families. The stories were collected during a child safeguarding assessment that Save the Children conducted in the refugee reception centres in Serbia. Although interviews were focused on the safety of children in the official centres, parents were keen to share their personal experiences and fears. Through touching confessions, more or less openly, they talked about how they felt like they needed more help to be able to do their best as parents.
“Parenting on the move – Testimonies of Refugee Parents in Serbia“ is issued by Balkans Migration and Displacement Hub (BMDH) working within Save the Children North West Balkans Country Office. BMDH provides continual support for children on the move in North West Balkans. We document good practices developed during the emergency response in the region, work with partners to collect quality data, research and monitor migration trends and migration-related phenomena in the Balkans, issuing regular reports, analyses and other relevant publications.
