An influenza pandemic occurs when a novel influenza virus appears against which the human population has limited or no immunity, and which transmits from person to person, resulting in simultaneous epidemics across the world. In the case of a pandemic, humanitarian organizations are likely to be part of the response, in collaboration with national or local public health authorities. It is important to ensure that humanitarian and health workers are prepared for such events, in order to ensure their safety.
This document entails field-based guidelines for humanitarian organizations conducting health-care programs for refugees and displaced people during influenza pandemics.
