Everyone needs a balanced diet to stay healthy and active. Children need to eat a variety of foods to grow, develop, and be strong. Foods are made up of different nutrients that work in different ways in our bodies. Some nutrients provide energy to work and play, others help to grow and build bones and muscle, while others help keep people healthy and protect from disease. Each nutrient is very important and should always be taken in adequate quantities to ensure normal body functions and good health. When any of the nutrients is lacking or is in short supply, the body does not function well and children will have less energy to move about, play, learn and grow.
This material provides information on nutrition and health practices to be utilized for the benefit of children in Malawi.
