This report presents a situation analysis of maternal and newborn survival in Nigeria. Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation and accounts for nearly one-quarter of the continent’s maternal and newborn deaths.
The policies guiding maternal and newborn health are reviewed as well as the current state of maternal and newborn care in Nigeria. A publication of the Nigeria’s Federal Health Ministry, it also accentuates the government’s commitment to ending preventable newborn deaths and the changes and progress they intend to enact in order to achieve Millennium Development Goal 4 for child survival.
