The eruption of COVID-19 caused school closures across the world. As a result, many children have lost access to formal learning, school meals, and numerous health services that otherwise are provided through school. The nutrition and health status of many children will have suffered during the pandemic necessitating multi-sectoral measures to build back better and protect and enhance nutrition and health outcomes of school children as they return to school.
This document, which is based on the Framework for Reopening Schools, provides a non-exhaustive list of multi-sectoral actions for a range of actors to consider as they are planning for and implementation of reopening schools. It focuses on considerations of nutrition, child protection, education, WASH, and health services that are delivered through the school.
