MyRight - Empowering People with Disabilities
Reading and writing are two of the most fundamental skills to make it out of poverty. With the Millenium Development Goals, all countries agreed that all children would have access to primary education by 2015. Yet children with disabilities were left behind–prejudice, lack of accessibility, gender inequality and poverty have kept children out of the classroom in many parts of the world.
To ensure that education is inclusive for all, an array of practical steps must be undertaken ranging from assistance availability to teachers being knowledgeable of children’s needs. This report discusses what challenges children with disabilities face in the educational system, what steps can be taken to include everyone in the classroom, and how collaborative measures lead to greater success. The report also includes three case studies.
