The Investment for Educational Development of the Highlands (IDEA) project was designed to improve literacy levels and increase the use of better food and health practices in primary school age children of the El Quiché region of Guatemala. Some of its main objectives are to: distribute school materials and supplies; strengthen teachers’ capacity and knowledge; prepare books and reading materials; provide training in food preparation and storage, etc.
The purpose of the midterm evaluation was to determine the quality of implementation, achievements and/or progress to date, in order to identify areas which need improvement and to generate recommendations for the remaining implementation period. Comparison with the baseline survey revealed that the IDEA project had generated significant changes in school age children, in education, and in the community, municipal, and national contexts.
