Bangladesh has the world’s fourth-highest rate of child marriage. According to UNICEF, 29% of girls during the period of 2005-2013 married before the age of 15 and 65 percent married before the age of 18.
This report by Human Rights Watch attempts to provide an answer as to why the country’s child marriage rate remains so high, while suggesting ways in which Bangladesh’s government can apply effective strategies for reducing child marriage.
This report aims to support the commitments Bangladesh’s government has made to ending child marriage by documenting the experiences and insights of child brides and their family members.
