Save the Children Malawi
Save the Children International is implementing a five-year project aimed at reducing malnutrition and improving early childhood development among children in Balaka and Ntcheu districts. The project is called the Integrated Mother-to-Child Grant (IMCG), although it is commonly referred to as Maziko.
Gender inequalities in roles and power between women and men, girls and boys, as well as violence and poverty, prevent many women from accessing economic opportunities, assets, and other resources. These challenges also put the objectives of the Maziko project at risk.
To address these challenges, the Maziko project is encouraging men to work together with women by taking part in household chores, caring for sick family members and children, cooking for their wives, and tending to household vegetable gardens. These responsibilities are traditionally carried out mostly by women and girls.
This booklet has been developed to guide discussions among male champions and father leads, who will support and encourage other men on the actions they can take to ensure that their marriages and families function well and are characterized by happiness, harmony, and mutual joy.
