Malawi Food Situation Brief September 2023

According to the Malawi 2023 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Acute Food Insecurity Analysis, which Save the Children Supported, 4.4 million
people, equivalent to 22% of the population, face food insecurity between October 2023 and March 2024. Within this distressing statistic, 2.3 million (53%) are children under 18 years of age, while 660,000, making up 15%, are under-five children. This is the highest recorded number of individuals facing severe food in security over the past five years. The situation is compounded by the looming threat of El Nino.
