Most nutrition training targeting nutrition and health workers focuses on curing malnutrition. However, most would agree that for societal issues with negative consequences it is equally crucial to focus on interventions that strengthen prevention. Advancing Nutrition (AN) has worked with various line ministries, county governments and Masinde Muliro University to relook at training for nutrition workers and make it more robust by including a host of factors that impact nutrition and thereby spread the focus of addressing malnutrition from prevention to cure. AN also collaborated with the line ministries and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to have the syllabus of secondary education to include updated content on nutrition, health and agriculture.
Secondly, to respond to the drought crisis in Garissa our team is working with a local partner, Woman Kind Kenya (WOKIKE). Several years back, WOKIKE was established to empower the local community to have ownership over their humanitarian and developmental concerns however the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) has been beset by several challenges. These include the lack of funding and access to technical and organizational development support. So even as we tackle the drought together with WOKIKE, our team has also worked with the partner to assess capacity and put together a capacity strengthening plan. Save the Children is supporting the implementation of this plan
