This report examines the results of a follow-up student background survey and reading assessment conducted in November and December 2013 as part of Save the Children’s (SC’s) Literacy Boost program in the Somali region of Ethiopia.
The survey and reading assessment sought to include as many as possible of 309 students who were assessed during an October-November 2012 baseline; however, there was a large number of students from baseline that could not be located during the endline survey. Thus, the endline survey assessed 171 learners from 19 of the original 20 schools in the two study districts. Ten schools had received approximately one year of the Literacy Boost program, and ten comparison schools had received no Literacy Boost intervention.
