Save the Children
Save the Children (SC) began sponsorship-funded programming in the Kapilvastu district, located in the Western Region of Nepal, in 2010 and in 2012 a Literacy Boost baseline assessment was launched in a set of 10 sponsorship schools – five targeted for Literacy Boost and five comparison schools. The five Literacy Boost schools were chosen based on factors such as having active child clubs, relatively strong support from the school management, and more engaged community members, thus ensuring the feasibility of Literacy Boost implementation. This selection, however, of schools with strong communities, constitutes an important but unmeasured difference between the two groups of schools.
