This report examines the results of a follow-up student background survey and reading assessment conducted in June 2014 as part of Save the Children’s (SC’s) Literacy Boost program in partnership with World Vision Burundi. This endline assessment builds upon the learnings and findings of a midline assessment which was conducted in October 2013 after implementation of the community action component of Literacy Boost.
The survey and reading assessment sought to include as many of the 549 learners assessed during an October 2012 baseline as possible. This June 2014 endline assessment was able to assess 436 learners throughout 28 schools in the Cankuzo and Muyaga Area Development Programs (ADPs) of World Vision Burundi. The 28 schools were randomly divided into 14 primary schools that have received twenty months of the Literacy Boost Community Action component and approximately 10 months of the teacher training component, and 14 comparison primary schools that received no Literacy Boost intervention.
