Comprised of representatives from UNICEF, WHO, and the United Nations Population division, the Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME) updates child mortality estimates annually. This report prevents the group’s latest estimates of under-five, infant and neonatal mortality up to the year 2013, and assesses progress towards Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4 at the country, regional, and global levels.
This report finds that regional trends are promising: all regions have reduced their under-five mortality by more than half since 1990, except for Sub-Sahara Africa and Oceania. However, improving child survival remains unfinished, and wide disparities exist among regions and countries.
