Vacation time for children and adolescents is more and more often spent at home, due to the difficult family economic conditions and the overall change in living and working habits. It is thus necessary that both families and local institutions make a commitment to ensure that children’s vacation time is well spent. Each Municipality should provide spaces for children to play and meet with peers, as well as offer cultural and recreational activities that are easily accessible to all.

Guaranteeing a quality summer break for children and adolescents does not only mean responding to the need of working parents, but also means making a step forward in the direction to combat “educational poverty”, or avoiding the widening of learning inequalities between children who come from different socio-economic backgrounds.
