Save the Children Lebanon
This brief examines the profound crisis facing Lebanon’s education system, driven by over a decade of compounded shocks, including severe economic collapse, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2024 conflict. The report highlights catastrophic learning losses—such as 330 missed teaching days between 2019 and 2023 and widespread foundational literacy deficits—alongside widespread infrastructure damage, systemic exclusion of refugee children and those with disabilities, and severe psychological distress. To prevent losing an entire generation, the brief outlines a comprehensive framework focused on stabilizing the system, resetting its foundations, and implementing long-term reforms, while calling on donors and the Lebanese government to prioritize flexible multi-year funding, inclusive policies, teacher workforce support, and the accreditation of non-formal education pathways.
