Save the Children Nigeria
This report documents learnings from the VaxSocial Project, implemented by Save the Children in collaboration with Nivi and with funding from GAVI. The project was anchored on askNivi, a WhatsApp-based health navigation platform with a strong presence in Nigeria, engaging more than 200,000 users before the intervention began.
The project showed that personalized digital journeys help caregivers address fear, misinformation, and practical barriers to immunization. Blending behavior informed messaging, trusted community engagement, and simple digital tools creates a strong pathway from awareness to action.
One insight stood out. Trust influenced caregivers more than technology. The WhatsApp-based askNivi platform delivered tailored vaccine guidance, reminders, and referrals, but most caregivers engaged only after speaking with someone they trusted. VaxSocial offers a practical blueprint for strengthening immunization demand across Nigeria. Learnings from VaxSocial will be integrated into other projects.
