Learning Brief: Dynamic Community Approaches Promote Health in Sikasso, Mali

This is a learning brief about The USAID/Nutrition and Hygiene project’s (Projet Nutrition et Hygiène) community approach focused on social and behavior change to improve nutrition among young children and pregnant and lactating women in Mali. The project aimed to increase exclusive breastfeeding and improve dietary diversity using locally-produced foods high in nutrients, while simultaneously improving the cleanliness of the environment to prevent disease transmission. This brief explores the project’s community approach and how it is being integrated into the Malian context. The content can be used by new programs and proposal writers and showcases the Save the Children approaches.

 

Le Projet Nutrition et Hygiène de l’USAID (PNH/USAID) a conçu une approche communautaire axée sur le changement social et comportemental afin d’améliorer la nutrition chez les jeunes enfants et les femmes enceintes et allaitantes. Le projet visait à augmenter l’allaitement maternel exclusif et à améliorer la diversité alimentaire grâce à des aliments produits localement et riches en nutriments tout en améliorant simultanément la propreté du cadre de vie pour prévenir la transmission de maladies. Cette fiche technique explore l’approche communautaire du projet ainsi que les voies de son intégration dans le contexte malien.
