Information on Latin America in the framework of the worldwide United Nations Study on Violence against children. The document summarizes the accumulated knowledge and experience of several governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in the promotion and protection of children’s rights in the region. In Latin America, the situation of violence against children is alarming – the rate of youth homicide indicators is among the highest in the world. The lack of violence prevention programmes coupled with the lack of information provided by government agencies on cases concerning violence against children, are the major constraints and challenges faced in effectively combating the cycle of violence.
