In many armed conflicts, schools and education facilities are used by the combatting forces as a base for fighting or recruiting children. This results in a reduction in school attendance, high drop-out rates, poor quality education and even children being captured.
Education is a fundamental human right, but for children living in states affected by war and conflict, accessing education often feels like an unattainable dream.
Ensuring that this dream becomes a reality is crucial. Going to school can offer children protection, a sense of normality and the prospect of a better future. Investing in education means investing in the generations of tomorrow.
This document reports the catastrophic consequences that war has on children’ education and talks about Save the Children’s efforts to support children’s education in Syria.
