Save the Children Colombia
Thanks to the support of donors, partners, and our advisory board, we impacted the lives of more than 420,000 people—65% of them children and adolescents—across 17 departments of the country. This is the result of the dedication and commitment of our wonderful team of nearly 450 people and 322 volunteers who leave a mark with every action they take. We also promoted local leadership in collaboration with 24 community-based organizations and amplified the voices of more than 350 children and adolescents who are part of our National Participation Network, We Lead the Change.
We achieved significant milestones in our poverty reduction programs, such as doubling the proportion of households able to meet most of their basic needs—from 14.1% to 31.2%—and improving the nutritional status of 25.8% of those households. We led, as civil society representatives, the First Global Ministerial Conference to End Violence Against Children, where child delegates from Colombia and around the world demanded that governments move from declarations to action. We also ensured meaningful child participation at COP16 (Global Children’s Summit), where, for the first time, a joint manifesto was developed by children, adolescents, and youth. Additionally, we helped position Colombia among the 3% of countries that, in updating their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reduce the impact of climate change, included direct participation of children.
In promoting equity for children and their environments, more than 5,000 women, girls, and adolescents accessed prenatal care and family planning services, realizing their sexual and reproductive rights.
Finally, this year we defined our new Country Strategy 2025–2027, built with the participation of more than 150 people, including partners, local communities, government entities, and of course, children and adolescents. It is focused on four key objectives: poverty reduction, combating violence and conflict, addressing climate change, and promoting equity.
These are just examples of actions that must continue. The challenges facing children are significant, and the solutions cannot be achieved by one person or organization alone. One of our most powerful resources is the creation of shared agendas, where collaboration and joint efforts are key to generating real impact. I invite you to redouble our efforts to continue supporting communities and local partners, to demand real commitment from governments, and to make it clear to the international community that children must be at the center of all decisions: let’s invest in their well-being and ensure they grow up safe, educated, healthy, and heard.
