This report is dedicated to the brave children and adolescents of this country:
Thank you for your trust and the opportunity to work together with local and national administrations, partners, and donors on solutions for the comprehensive development of children, with and for communities. Your support has made it possible to respond to emergencies affecting more than 500,000 people.
We present our achievements and challenges, which have engaged a team of 620 people working every day to ensure that children, adolescents, and their families have the best conditions for development, protection, and well-being in Bogotá, Nariño, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Arauca, Norte de Santander, La Guajira, and Cesar. Each of us contributed our knowledge, energy, and dedication to improving conditions in education, protection, water and sanitation, health, nutrition, livelihoods, governance, and child participation for those who need it most, with a portfolio of around 30 million dollars during 2021.
Five years after the signing of the Peace Agreements with the FARC and amid the worsening humanitarian situation in various regions of the country, Save the Children joined the voices of civil society calling for the implementation of the agreement, greater security for human rights defenders, and increased social investment and commitment in regions where full rights guarantees are still far from reality.
Additionally, we intensified our efforts to promote a #SafeReturnToSchool and strengthen protective environments in families, schools, and communities to prevent children from becoming victims of forced recruitment and use in armed conflict.
With half a million people affected in two and a half years since the Venezuelan migration crisis began in 2019, we thank you for the trust that drives us to seek lasting solutions—from immediate emergency response to crises caused by armed conflict, migration, natural disasters, and COVID-19, to stabilization, social inclusion, and access to rights for thousands of families in the country.
In 2021, Save the Children reached 302,571 people, including 75,542 girls, 62,199 boys, 101,244 women, and 63,586 men. We were fortunate and privileged to fulfill our mission in regions where the most urgent needs persist for access to basic services and escaping extreme poverty.
Finally, let us celebrate together the honor it has been for Save the Children Colombia to be part of the registration of 1,700,000 migrants in the country to obtain the Temporary Protection Statute. This has facilitated children’s access to school, healthcare, and recreation, and given families the opportunity to work, knowing they are dignified citizens of this country.
For a better Colombia, where we all build peace and protect our children.
