This report presents the learnings from a programme designed and implemented by CARE Ethiopia and evaluated by the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW). The programme “Towards Economic and Sexual Reproductive Health Outcomes for Adolescent Girls” (TESFA) focused solely on married girls in the Amhara region of Ethiopia and how to best support them as they transition to adulthood.
The programme focused on two objectives. The first was to encourage girls to take part in income-generating activities and paid employment, as well as to increase their savings and loan opportunities. The second objective was to provide basic knowledge about birth control and sexually transmitted infections. The project also sought to increase access to contraceptives and health services, including antenatal care.
