Ten years after the publication of the first Atlas of Children, Save the Children Italy has published a new edition where it takes stock of the condition of children in Italy during the 2008-2018 period. What has happened in this past decade?
This was a critical period, marked by two very serious economic crises, first in 2008 and then in 2012. In Italy, more than anywhere else, this situation has impacted children and their families, seriously compromising growth expectations and producing an unprecedented generational imbalance. In 2008, 1 minor out of 25 (3.7%) was in absolute poverty. One decade later, 1 in 8 (12.5%) found themselves in this condition.
Going forward, Save the Children Italy highlights the need to invest in schools, nurseries and parenting support policies.
