Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters, South Asia is facing a vicious cycle of cascading risks. The COVID-19 pandemic and the socio-economic impacts related to it, as well as related service disruption, is affecting about 600 million children within the region and is threatening to wipe out decades of development gains related to children’s health, education, and protection. The most vulnerable groups are at risk of falling back into poverty due to the economic downturn. This appeal describes the difficulties in South Asia, and the strategies used by UNICEF to respond to these.
