2.9 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Burkina Faso. Of these, over 1 million people are living in internal displacement, 1.7 million people lack access to health services. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 5.1 million children are temporarily out of school. Burkina Faso also experienced the worst floods in 10 years, affecting 106,000 people. There are global acute malnutrition rates registered above 15 percent. This appeal describes the difficulties in Burkina Faso, and the strategies used by UNICEF to respond to these.
