Published 2018, this German Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) manual is an updated and adapted guidance for all people working with children in and after distress. Based on the renowned CFS concept, which is part of the international “Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action”, the manual gives recommendations on how to further strengthen children’s protection in reception centres and refugee accommodations in developed contexts. More specifically, it summarizes Save the Children Germany’s practical experiences by explaining the overall aims of Child Friendly Spaces, important working conditions for the CFS team and its partners, spatial standards for the room itself as well as structures and routines for the daily running of a CFS. Additional guiding material and a comprehensive CFS quality checklist can be found in the manual’s annex.
