Child eye health is an important public health concern, with far-reaching consequences affecting a child’s education, social participation, and future labor productivity throughout life. Promotion of child eye health is addressed in both the Convention of the Rights of the Child, and will further contribute to Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals by “ensuring an inclusive and equitable quality of education for all and promote lifelong learning.”

These guidelines have been developed to help the planning and implementation of child eye health in educational facilities. The guidelines take an integrated approach, where Ministries of Education and Health work together to ensure effective delivery of school eye health programmes.
