Child Protection Working Group for Iraq
Children, who constitute over half of any given population size, are particularly vulnerable to illness, malnutrition, and abuse and exploitation in times of instability and crisis due to their uniquely dependent status and the fragility of their physical and developmental processes. Measures, therefore, must be taken to ensure that their basic safety, nutritional and developmental needs are being adequately and effectively provided for. As humanitarian actors, we need to ensure that we include risk prevention components into all of our responses.
This tool aims to highlight key protection concerns and suggests activities that all camp coordinators can work towards, in order to establish a common standard of protection at camp coordination level. Based on Guidelines developed by the Child Protection Working Group for Iraq (UNICEF, IRC, SC Alliance, WVI, EDM) and the NRC camp management handbook.
