Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children: A United Nations framework

This publication presents the final version of the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children, which was formally welcomed by the UN General Assembly on November 20th to mark the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The publication also includes, for each section of the Guidelines, questions relating to national policy. While the questions are neither exhaustive, nor part of the official text, they aim at inspiring reflection on the implementation of the key principles of the Guidelines at the national level. The Guidelines must be turned into concrete tools that contribute to the formulation of legislation, the planning of public policies for child and adolescent care, and the concrete practices of public bodies and private institutions involved in the promotion and protection of children’s rights
