Greener Schools, Stronger Voices: Inclusive Generation Hope in Iraq (2025)

This article examines the implementation of Save the Children International’s Generation Hope campaign in Iraq, which promoted inclusive child-led climate action among children in a refugee camp school in Duhok Governorate. Supported through the Multi-Year Resilience Programme (MYRP), the initiative engaged 25 children aged 12–15, including children with disabilities, in interactive environmental education activities designed to strengthen awareness, participation, and leadership in climate action. Through child-friendly approaches such as games, drawing activities, tree planting, and community murals, participants developed practical understanding of environmental challenges and proposed local solutions.

The campaign also linked children’s experiences to broader advocacy efforts aimed at integrating climate and environmental education into the national curriculum in coordination with the Ministry of Education. By combining inclusive participation, experiential learning, and policy engagement, the initiative demonstrated how children—including those from displaced and vulnerable communities—can actively contribute to environmental resilience and community-led climate solutions.
