Save the Children Somalia/Somaliland
Save the Children in Somalia believes that due to the prevailing, protracted crisis in Somalia, Climate change and work are intrinsically connected, as the demerits of drought and flooding has affected millions of jobs and livelihoods to disappear, as more than 1.3 million people fled their homes in 2023 alone, as double as the 2021 displacement rates . This complex dynamic allows us to rethink our economic empowerment model and introduce sustainable, climate resilient jobs in the green economy. These include linking, adolescents’ youth and women to access climate smart agricultural skills to engage in on-farm livelihoods, and nature-based solutions including the renewable energy skills to setting up Micro enterprises focusing on agribusiness, renewable energy (solar) while building leadership for climate activists to improve climate advocacy and become champions to climate adaptation and environmental safeguarding. Our green jobs approach is gender transformative with equitable support to those affected by discrimination and inequality including adolescent girls, boys and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
