Early Childhood Development (ECD) can be understood as a process that starts at conception and continues through around the age of 8 years old. During this critical period the foundational architecture of the brain is constructed, as children develop motor, cognitive, linguistic, and socio-emotional skills. Subsequent development throughout life builds on these foundational capacities established in the earliest years.
