This article provides an introductory evaluation of the Raised Voices’ Good School Toolkit, which is designed to prevent violence in schools and to improve both the quality of education as well as the school environment. Because the primary goal of the Good School Toolkit is to address corporal punishment in schools, this study focuses on assessing the impact of the Good Schools Toolkit on children’s experiences of violence by school staff among those attending school in the Luwero Disctrict of Uganda.
The study relies upon a number of assessment criteria, both quantitative and qualitative. This article is an introduction to the methodology and techniques that will be employed. The actual study has been finished and can be accessed here. The researchers posit that this will be the first study to rigorously investigate the effects of any intervention to prevent violence from school staff to children in primary school in a low income setting.
