Save the Children Romania
Romania has become a sending and transit country for victims of trafficking. Children, women and persons with disabilities are sold and exploited in various countries (former Yugoslavian states, Western and Asian countries). Such a disturbing increase in the phenomenon of human trafficking across South-East Europe requires efforts to combat it. As a first step, Romania has signed the UN Palermo Protocol (to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children), adopted on 15th November 2000. After signing the Palermo Protocol , Romania has developed a legal framework, which contains the means to prevent, define and punish the criminal offences as well as modalities to support the victims of trafficking.
