Global Report on Internal Displacement 2017

The Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID), produced by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), presents the latest information on internal displacement worldwide caused by conflict, violence, and disasters.

This GRID recognizes the year’s attempts by the global community to address the needs of internally displaced persons but raises a warning that the needs of IDPs have largely been forgotten in the proceeding months. A paradigm shift is necessary to actively meet the needs of IDPs, emphasizes the IDMC. A shift is needed from a reactive to a proactive state: understanding the interconnected causes and structural drivers of displacement as well as investing in reducing vulnerability and mitigating the longer-term impacts of displacement.
