Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children
Corporal punishment is a serious violation against the child’s right to be protected from harm, and evidence shows that it also has severe impacts on society. Children affected by corporal punishment are more likely to display aggression, engaging in violence as teenagers, and become perpetrators or victims of intimate partner violence in their adult lives. Despite this, only twelve percent of the world’s children were fully protected from all corporal punishment in 2019.
This report summarizes the progress made in ending corporal punishment of children as of 2019 and sets the pathway for future work and effectiveness.
