As the 2015 deadline for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) approaches, we are at a critical juncture where an end to extreme poverty is within reach. The opportunity of defining a new global development framework presents us with the unique challenge of being the generation that can eliminate key dimensions of extreme poverty. To make this happen, the post-2015 framework must contain ‘zero goals’ to finish the job that the MDGs started.
New analysis by Save the Children demonstrates how tackling income inequality and improving the effectiveness and accountability of governance could help to accelerate rates of poverty reduction, ensuring that zero goals can be achieved by 2030. It could mean more than 850,000 children’s lives saved per year in Africa by 2030.
