As it is important that any gender analysis (and strategy) for children be based upon the insights of children, twenty-four children from conflict-affected northern Nigeria – including 12 girls and 12 boys aged 10 to 17 – were therefore facilitated to participate meaningfully in this gender analysis through the use of age-appropriate, inclusive and child-friendly consultation techniques. All children had experienced the direct and indirect consequences of attacks in the area. Various tools, including body mapping and community mapping, were specifically developed for this purpose and were administered in local languages by a qualified, mixed-gender team of Save the Children staff on the ground. This piece of work represents the illustrations of the boys’ and girls’ views on the impact of conflict on their lives.
