From Disruption to Recovery: Rebuilding Education in East Wollega’s Conflict-Affected Schools (Ethiopia, 2026)

Following conflict-related destruction of schools in Ethiopia’s East Wollega Zone, Save the Children’s EHF-funded emergency education response rehabilitated damaged schools, provided learning materials, strengthened teacher capacity, and delivered psychosocial support to restore safe learning environments. The intervention increased student enrollment by 30%, improved classroom conditions, supported vulnerable learners, and mobilized communities to contribute to school recovery. The experience highlights the effectiveness of combining rapid needs assessments, education resources, psychosocial support, and strong community engagement to re-establish education in conflict-affected settings.
