Forced to Flee Central America’s Northern Triangle: A neglected humanitarian crisis

Since 2012, Médicins Sans Frontiers (MSF) has been providing medical and mental health care to tens of thousands of migrants and refugees fleeing the extreme violence permeating the Northern Triangle of Central America (NTCA) region, which includes the countries of El Salvadore, Guatemala, and Honduras.

This report is based on surveys and programmatic data from the past two years, documenting extensive levels of violence against patients treated in MSF clinics, as well as the mental health impact of trauma experienced prior to departure from countries of origin.

MSF outlines the protection gaps for migrants and asylum seekers in both Mexico and the United States, concluding with a series of measures to address those gaps, which often have serious negative consequences.
