The First Food System: The importance of breastfeeding in global food systems discussions

The United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit (FSS) in September 2021 is a unique and critical opportunity for stakeholders to discuss and evaluate how the world’s populations obtain and consume foods. However, the conceptual framework that will guide and influence the summit’s discussions is incomplete.

This policy brief provides key arguments as to why breastfeeding needs to be explicitly promoted and protected within the UN Food Systems Summit dialogue.
