Final Report: Rapid Nutrition Determinant Assessment of Save the Children Sponsorship Program in Indonesia (2025)

The overarching purpose of the Rapid Nutrition Determinant Assessment (Rapid NDA) was to understand the key determinants of child wasting in a Sponsorship-supported, remote rural context and to examine how social inclusion factors—such as gender norms, poverty, disability, and remoteness—interact with nutrition, health, WASH, caregiving, and livelihood conditions. The study aimed to generate actionable evidence to inform program adaptation, equity-focused programming, and handover planning as part of the Sponsorship Program’s phase-out process.
Based on the consolidated analysis, four major nutrition determinants were identified: low access to income, inadequate household water availability, heavy workloads of women, and entrenched socio-cultural norms. Important determinants include Limited access to health services, Low nutritional status of women, Caregiver’s mental wellbeing, non-optimal complementary feeding practices, low quality caregiver–child interactions, low access to quality diets, limited market access, poor sanitation and hygiene practices, poor food and environmental hygiene practices and low female autonomy/decision making.
